What are your fees?
Our tax preparation fee for Individuals (1040s) starts at $165. However, the price will increase based on the number of forms we need to prepare your return. We do NOT charge by the number of forms you bring in; we charge based on the number of forms we need to prepare and send into the Federal and State entities for a complete tax return.
Our tax preparation fee for Estates and Trusts (1041s) starts at $350. This flat fee covers up to two hours of work on the tax return. If additional hours are needed to prepare the return, we charge an additional $140/hr.
Our tax planning fee is $100/hr assessed in 15-minute increments. This tax-planning fee is assessed for tax-planning questions, tax plan creation, and some IRS and WI DOR letter reviews.
What do I bring in?
For our existing clients, bring in all the tax documents you normally need to prepare your return, your driver's license, and proof of your banking account and routing number. If you are unsure a document is necessary, we encourage you to bring it with you so we can check it out. We also encourage you to bring any questions you may have so we can answer them while you are here.
For our new clients, bring in the last two years of your filed tax returns, the tax documents you normally need to prepare your return, your driver's license, and proof of your banking account and routing number. If you are unsure a document is necessary, we encourage you to bring it with you so we can check it out. We also encourage you to bring any questions you may have so we can answer them while you are here.
What tax documents do you need?
We encourage you to fill out our Income Tax Checklist. Our checklist will walk you through questions designed to help you gather documents that pertain to your individual tax situation. A completed checklist is required from every client upon arrival, but filling it out beforehand can help you organize your documents. You can find our Income Tax Checklist HERE.
As a new client, why do I need to bring the last two years of my taxes?
There are multiple items on a tax return that can carry through year to year. Carryforward gains, carryforward losses, depreciation schedules, and carryforward credits are only a small example of items that need to be maintained throughout tax years. Additionally, being able to assess your prior year returns allows us better insight into your tax situation so that we can help make sure there is no missing information from year to year. Additionally, if we do find something that needs to be corrected from prior years, we can walk you through that as well.
My return has been filed, where's my refund?
Once your return has been filed, you will need to check with the government authorities for the status of your refund, as Acc-U-Rite Tax does not receive updates on return processing from the Internal Revenue Service or the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
To check your IRS refund status, click HERE.
To check your WI DOR refund status, click HERE.
I got a letter! What do I do now?
We encourage our clients to bring their Internal Revenue Service or Wisconsin Department of Revenue letters to our office so we can assess them and help you understand what they are asking for. We need to see ALL pages of the letter that you receive. You can also digitally upload your letter to our tax portal for us to view. If a response is needed, we can give you next steps on how to navigate correspondence with each governing authority. Fees for our time may apply.
Do you electronically file my tax return?
Yes! If a tax preparation agency is required to file at least 10 tax returns in a calendar year, then they must submit all tax returns electronically. Acc-U-Rite files more than 10 tax returns each calendar year, meaning we are required by the Internal Revenue Service to submit them via electronic delivery. Sometimes, issues arise resulting in a tax return that needs to be mailed in. However, our preparers would walk you through that process if the need arises.
How do your preparers keep up with new tax laws or tax law changes?
Every preparer is required to participate in a minimum of 16 hours of continuing education annually provided by a third-party educator. Additionally, Acc-U-Rite provides its preparers with internal training of at least 10 hours annually as well. This ensures that we are current on tax laws.
Do I have to fill out your Income Tax Checklist?
Yes, please! This helps us ensure we cover your bases when it comes to taxable events that might affect you. You can either fill it out before you stop by or after you check in at our office.
Can I send or receive checks from the Internal Revenue Service?
This is the answer the Internal Revenue Service currently has published on their website:
"Q2. How much longer will taxpayers be able to pay the IRS by check or money order? (added Jan. 27, 2026)
A2. For now, mailed payments to the IRS, including cash, checks, and money orders, will still be accepted and processed. However, over time, the IRS will fully transition to electronic methods. The IRS will accept checks when electronic payment methods are not available for a certain transaction type or in specific situations such as those involving hardships, and/or legal and procedural requirements."

Can I send or receive checks from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue?
Yes. The Wisconsin Department of Revenue has put out no stipulations regarding an electronic payment transition.
