The year of 2020 has been a most unusual year for everyone in the world. Safer at Home orders, businesses slowing down to essential services only, businesses shut down as non-essential businesses, and fear of an unseen virus has caused all of us to live through interesting times and adapt to these constant changes. Here at Acc-U-Rite Tax Service, we have also had to make adaptations and changes in response to the world around us. Here are the key informational points that you should know about Acc-U-Rite Tax and how we will be proceeding with business through July 15th, 2020.
1) The tax deadline has been extended until July 15th. DON'T WAIT UNTIL JULY TO FILE YOUR TAX RETURN! Under normal conditions we have a limited number of full time staff members available to work on tax returns. In light of the extension we have asked some of our seasonal tax preparers to stay on until July 15th and many of them have agreed to be available as needed. But, we need to schedule the additional staff around their availability. Please allow us to service you effectively by bringing in your paperwork sooner than later. Thank You!
2) We have adjusted our hours through July 15th. These hours are:
Monday-Thursday: 9 AM to 6 PM
Fridays: 9 AM to 5 PM
Saturdays & Sundays: Closed
We can work around your schedule for pickup or drop off should you be unable to come in during these hours. Please call us at 414-541-4900 and we will work with you to make arrangements.
3) We no longer prepare tax returns in person while you are sitting at the desk. This has been our primary form of tax preparation for decades, but under the State of Wisconsin Emergency Order #12, this has prevented us from continuing this practice to prevent the spread of COVID 19. We have restructured our process to a drop off only practice for the foreseeable future. We do put the tax returns into a quarantined room for a 48 hour period. The health professionals have informed the public that the risk of catching COVID 19 is very low from surfaces, but we are doing what we can to protect them from exposure. After the quarantine period the tax preparers work on the tax return and call the client with any questions. These prepared returns are available for pick up in person or by sending them out to you through the mail.
Thank you for your continued loyalty and trust during these trying times.
On March 20, 2020, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced that the tax filing deadline will now also be moved from April 15 to July 15. All taxpayers and businesses will have additional time to file and make payments without interest and penalties. More details will be added as received. At this time, we do not know if the State of Wisconsin will conform to the July 15th extended deadline, but we are attempting to gather more information and will update our website as information becomes available.
IRS Notice 2020-17, released on March 18, 2020, states the following:
"The Treasury Department and IRS are extending the due date for Federal income tax payments due April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020, for payments due of up to $10 million for corporations and up to $1 million for individuals - regardless of filing status – and other unincorporated entities. Associated interest, additions to tax, and penalties for late payment will also be suspended until July 15, 2020."
An extension of time to file can be requested using Form 4868 (see Related Links below). This would extend the time to file until October 15, 2020. These extensions can be filed by Acc-U-Rite Tax, simply give us a call when we are open and we can accommodate this request over the phone.
If the taxpayer files their tax return or requests an extension of time to file by the deadline, they will automatically avoid interest and penalties on the taxes paid by July 15. Penalties and interest will begin to accrue on any remaining unpaid balances as of July 16, 2020. The relief applies to the following:
The IRS has provided the following website for updates related to the coronavirus: Coronavirus Tax Relief. See also Treasury and IRS Issue Guidance on Deferring Tax Payments Due to COVID-19 Outbreak.
